Sega Saturn USB-C Power Supply Mod

Image
Today we're gonna modify this japanese Saturn that runs on 110V/60Hz to make it run out a USB-C PD output.   Necessary tools: SaturnPSU from AliExpress ( link here ) USB-C 12V decoy module ( link here ) Access to a 3D printer ( 3D part available here ) First, let's open this bad boy. Ok, so the power supply is on the left and we need to replace it with the Saturn PSU after cutting the main wire & soldering our 12V decoy module. Then we print our 3D part & put everything together. I was lazy and just superglued the decoy to the 3D part. After the console is closed, here's the final result. And it runs !

Dreamcast USB-C Power Supply Mod

Image
Today we're gonna modify an already existing mod to allow our Dreamcast to be powered via USB-C PD. We're gonna need a few pieces: A DreamPSU/RetroPSU.com power supply without a charger (found on AliExpress) A USB-C 12V decoy (AliExpress, too) A 3D printer The Dreamcast is super easy to open, just remove all the big screws. While you're at it, remove the original power supply if you still have it. Take your DreamPSU & cut off the end. And solder the wires to the decoy, like this (red on +, black on -): Then print the part available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6906439 I printed it twice in different directions & took the one i found the cleanest. The original OnShape link is available on Thingiverse if you need to modify it to your needs. I was lazy & glued the decoy & the plastic part together using superglue. Then put it back together. It runs !

Polaroid 636 CloseUp Teardown and Service

Image
Hello, today we're gonna service this old Polaroid i inherited from my grandfather. It has not been used since the nineties, probably. Here's a step by step guide on how i proceeded. Step 1: remove the flash To achieve this, you need to lift the flash 45 degrees   And pry it open using your trustee tool (flat head screwdriver or better, phone fixing kit) Step 2: Main body separation Use your tool to separate the main body from the casing. A little amount of force is sometimes required. Step 3: remove the main body Open the bottom flap and start prying on the bottom tabs while pulling on the flap, the whole shebang will come out and you can easily separate them in 3 parts (main body + flash, bottom flap & visor lens) Step 4: Separate the flash You'll need a small flathead screwdriver & your prying tool to open this part Then delicately disconnect the two flex wires and you get this Step 5: Cleanup & maintenance Here i use a big brush to dust off the camera, esp...

The Essential Tool

When you build or repair things, the most difficult thing is often tearing it apart without breaking anything. If you’re like me you just grab the nearest flat head screwdriver and go to town. Big mistake ! What you need is this: It’s a cheap phone repair kit you can find for less than 2$ on AliExpress for example. What I like to do with these is round the edges using a cheap 400 grit diamond stone or sandpaper. I add a small angle on the flat part to make it more precise, but beware not to sharpen it too much to avoid cutting into the very thing you want to keep intact.

Welcome !

Hello and welcome to my new blog about random stuff. As a new year resolution I decided to post more stuff online regarding things I make or fix through the year. I’m always looking for info to fix stuff online but never publish my own discoveries, which is a shame. We’ll fix that
